The design proposes five residential buildings for the 12,300 m² site. The design is based on an approximately 4 x 4 m module grid. Due to their prefabricated, modular wooden construction, the two- and three-storey buildings offer affordable, yet differentiated 2- to 4-room apartments. The new architecture translates the context of the systematic timber construction of the adjacent 1930s semi-detached house into a larger scale and a contemporary design language. Despite independent volumes and cubature, the new architecture mediates between surrounding buildings.

The outdoor facilities of the new buildings offer open courtyard situations to the row buildings and several intimate garden rooms flanked by the semi-detached house. The shared use of play areas, lawns and raised bed gardens by the new and resident residents is expressly desired. Privately usable open spaces are offered in form of open “green rooms” as loggias for all apartments in the new buildings.
